Personhood Progress Update

60 days! So much has been done in the last year and a half, and so much is left to do in the next 60 days!

In the first year and a half of Personhood USA’s existence, 40 states organized to fight for the pre-born child.

Some states formed steering committees to begin promoting Personhood and grow their grassroots networks.  Other states introduced Personhood measures in their state legislatures.  Most notably, Montana and North Dakota were able to pass Personhood measures in one chamber of their state legislatures before succumbing in the other.

In Alaska, Nevada, and Missouri, the abortion industry used the courts to prevent us from getting even one signature.  However, the tighter the grip of the tyrant, the stronger the resistance to tyranny. Activists in all three states are poised for the next battle.

In California, the indomitable Pastor Walter Hoye led California’s first Personhood campaign, and gathered 600,000 signatures, and innumerable friends and allies for the next attempt.

Florida’s Personhood Amendment continues to grow towards its 2012 ballot deadline.  Personhood Florida is the largest pro-life organization on Twitter, boasting over 50,000 followers.

Mississippi’s Personhood Amendment is officially on the ballot for 2011.  To get on the ballot, volunteers in Mississippi broke signature records and have become one of only four amendments to make it on the ballot in the past 20 years.

This leaves Colorado.  Not only is Colorado the last Personhood amendment still standing in 2010, but it is THE ONLY PRO-LIFE LAW ON THE 2010 BALLOT ANYWHERE IN THE NATION!

The eyes of the nation are upon Colorado.  2010 might very well be the perfect storm for a pro-life measure.  President Obama’s administration has run roughshod over the American people, and 2010 will give the people an opportunity to issue a message to liberals trying to take over our nation.  The strongest message would be passing the Colorado Personhood Amendment, Amendment 62, in a state that voted to elect President Obama.  Oh how the political winds have changed!

In Colorado, there is a 20% conservative swing underway.  All major conservative candidates support the Amendment, and most importantly of all, the people are fired up.

In the past two months we have distributed 110,000 educational campaign brochures, 70,000 Personhood educational magazines, 30,000 educational bookmark flyers, 13,000 bumper stickers, 10,000 stickers, 5,000 buttons, and put up five billboards including one mobile billboard.

In 60 days, so much has been done all over the nation in the last year and a half, and so much is left to do in the next 60 days in Colorado.

We have collaborated with the Human Life Alliance to distribute 250,000 additional Personhood educational magazines specifically designed and tailored for Colorado’s Amendment 62. You can see the magazine at www.humanlife.org/shesachild.php .

A network of pro-life missionaries and volunteers is activating over 1000 churches in Colorado to educate and motivate the pro-life faithful.

A state of the art website, www.MyCampaignTracker.org, is empowering individuals all across the state to manage the campaign in their own neighborhoods.

Our opposition, led by the duo of death – the ACLU and Planned Parenthood, has launched its campaign and has vowed to spend one million dollars to defeat our efforts.

Now is the opportunity for the real pro-lifers to rise up.  If you, and each of the other 10,000 receiving this email, donate $100 we will match the pro-aborts dollar for dollar, and will finally get to fight for life on a level playing field.

10,000 pro-lifers fighting for the innocent millions.

10,000 pro-lifers marching in lock step.

10,000 pro-lifers to change the world.

The souls of the 50 million innocent who have perished are a critical reminder of what is at stake.

God is enabling us to fight this one, epic pro-life battle this year.  He is the Way, the Truth, and the Light, and with Him we are victorious.

Will you join us?

Amendment 62 / Personhood, gets more GOP support than in 2008

GJSentinel.com-Grand Junction Daily Sentinel http://www.gjsentinel.com/articles/print/prolife_measures_support_reviv Pro-life measure’s support revived

By Charles Ashby
Monday, May 10, 2010

The last time the personhood amendment made the Colorado ballot in 2008, a number of anti-abortion Republican leaders either distanced themselves from it or outright opposed the idea because they said it went too far.

None of that seems to be the case with the 2010 version of the measure, political observers say.

As a result, all of the top-named GOP candidates for governor and the U.S. Senate have publicly supported the ballot question that would declare that life begins at conception.

That’s a big contrast from 2008, when such top GOP people as then-U.S. Senate candidate Bob Schaffer and Colorado Republican Party Chairman Dick Wadhams, among others, were outspoken critics of the ballot question that voters ultimately trounced by an overwhelmingly 3-1 margin.

This year’s ballot question, known as Amendment 62, is written virtually the same. Instead of saying a human life begins at the moment of fertilization, it says life begins at the “biological development” of that human being.

What’s the difference?

“There isn’t a big difference,” said Gualberto Garcia Jones, director of Personhood Colorado, the group that put both measures on the ballot. “It’s a technicality, but it’s not meant to mislead anyone or give us an excuse to do it again.”

The ultimate goal is to make abortion illegal, and the ballot means to do that by drawing what would almost certainly be a court challenge. Garcia Jones and other personhood supporters hope that inevitable lawsuit will lead to a reversal of Roe v. Wade, the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that led to legalized abortions.

In 2008, however, top GOP leaders such as Wadhams and Schaffer said if the personhood measure ended up in court, it ran the risk of solidifying that court ruling rather than reversing it.

But while Garcia Jones disagreed with arguments against the 2008 ballot question now just as much as he did then, he was surprised to learn it’s winning support among such mainstream political candidates as Jane Norton and Ken Buck, who are running for U.S. Senate, and Dan Maes and Scott McInnis, who announced his support for the idea at a Western Colorado Conservative Alliance debate last week.

“Just goes to show you, I’m the director of the campaign and I didn’t know that,” he said. “If they’re supporting it, it’s probably because of a combination of their principles and the political climate.”

Democrats are just as much against the idea this year as they were the last time, and they’re not alone. The Colorado Catholic Conference, which represents the state’s three Catholic dioceses on matters of public policy, is expected to come out against it this year as it did in 2008.

Political pollster Floyd Ciruli said the politics behind the ballot question, just like politics in general this year compared to 2008, are entirely different.

That election was viewed as a big Democratic year, and polarizing GOP social issues such as abortion were unlikely to go anywhere, Ciruli said.

This year the political landscape is more favorable to Republicans, and any issue that would bring conservative voters to the polls is something they need to embrace, he said.

“This is a primary in which these front-runner candidates are being challenged by their right,” Ciruli said. “Not only do they need to win that challenge, they still need lots of enthusiasm from that block of voters. When you look down the repertoire of what they have said, they are consistently taking the most conservative views that they might have waffled on a few years ago.”

Like Ciruli, Wadhams said taking such far-right stances on social issues won’t hurt Republican candidates in general elections as they may have in the past, because the electorate as a whole isn’t focused on them.

Historically, candidates on both sides of the political aisle tended to steer clear of such hot-button issues that can pull them too far from the center. But this year, the focus is so directed on the economy, jobs and fiscal matters, such issues as abortion will almost go unnoticed, Wadhams said.

“I don’t think is this is going to be a defining issue in these campaigns either way,” he said. “What is far more of issue is the cost, scope, size and power of government. That has to do with the stimulus bill, the health care bill, cap and trade, car taxes. Those are the issues that define the agenda of 2010.”

PERSONHOOD PRECINCT CAUCUS INSTRUCTIONS

Tonight at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 16, hundreds of thousands of registered Democrats and Republicans across Colorado will be gathering simultaneously at their party precinct caucus meetings to participate in the American process of self-governance at the “grass-roots” level. The precinct caucus is a neighborhood meeting where average citizens can participate in the selection of their party candidates for elected office and establishing the ideals espoused by their party.

For those who plan to attend your party precinct caucus meeting tonight to collect Personhood signatures, please arrive at your meeting location no later than 6:30 p.m. in order to find parking and to let your precinct committee person know that you wish to speak on behalf of the Personhood initiative. Be aware that the Personhood initiative has equal standing with any of the candidates who are running for public office, so it is your right as a petition circulator to speak on behalf of the initiative.

During the meeting, time will be allotted for the candidates or their representatives to speak on their behalf. At that time, those circulating voter-referendum petitions may speak on behalf of the initiative. When the opportunity arises during that time, simply rise and state that you are circulating a voter-referendum petition that asks the question:

“Should there be an amendment to the Colorado constitution applying the term ‘person’ to every human-being from the beginning of their biological development?”

Tell them that the amendment is meant to restore the personhood of preborn babies and therefore their constitutional right to life. Tell them the signature deadline is this Thursday and that they may sign your petition after the meeting.

During the meeting, the precinct committee person will ask if anyone has any resolutions to present. When the opportunity arises during that time, simply stand and say:

“I resolve that the (your county) (your party) Party support an amendment to the Colorado constitution applying the term ‘person’ to every human-being from the beginning of their biological development.” (Click the following link to print a copy of that language to take with you to read from and submit to the precinct committee person after you have presented the resolution):

http://www.coloradorighttolife.org/files/docs/personhood-resolution2010.pdf

If you have already turned in your Personhood petition, please attend your caucus meeting to present the Personhood resolution.

This is how the process of self-government works! It’s easy and it’s fun, but more importantly, it’s your duty as a Christian and an American citizen to participate in it.

Get signatures at your Colorado Republican Caucuses

Republican Caucuses: It’s crucial that you go to your precinct caucus because it’s a gold mine for personhood signatures, and also you can print out and introduce the following resolution:

“Be it resolved that the (__county name__) County Republican Party supports the passage of an amendment to the Colorado constitution to apply the term “person” to every human being from the beginning of their biological development.”

should be moved for adoption at the time resolutions are voted on at EVERY Republican Precinct Caucus meeting on March 16:

This too is as easy as 1-2-3 at your caucus:
1st: Get signatures at the caucus!
2nd: Introduce the above personhood resolution!
3rd: Encourage delegates/candidates to support personhood!

[Afterward, and prior to your county assembly, consider contacting your county chairman or your county Republican Party Resolution Committee chairman to be sure that the personhood resolution is on the ballot and voted on at your county Republican assembly!]

Colorado goes into overtime, your support needed today!

Dear Allies In The Battle For Human Dignity, Wednesday 8:56 PM

Great things have happened in Colorado. We are in the epicenter of the Personhood explosion across the country!  And that is largely because of your support and prayers!  Thank you!

Now we need of you more than ever, the situation couldn’t be more critical!

I just got off the phone with the Secretary of State in Colorado.  Even though we turned in over 79,000 signatures it was not enough.  The SOS has thrown out 15,690 signatures he called “invalid”.

Now we have 15 days to mobilize our volunteers and finish the job.  The good news is we are READY!  We have been working to prepare and now we can finish the job. Our volunteers are working already to gather the15,690 signatures to finish the job.

The bad news: every single penny we have for Colorado has been spent.  To mobilize our forces we critically need $9,425 TODAY!

There’s no time to spare, so I am counting on you to click here https://www.personhoodusa.com/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=4 right now and contribute your best gift to finish the job in Colorado!

A volunteer called me a few days ago, and thanked us for doing this again.  He is encouraged that we are willing to fight for the preborn no matter what! And he’s confident that 2010 will be a great year for ALL conservative issues.

I couldn’t agree more!  The “political winds” are blowing like a hurricane in our direction.  Every sane voter is fed up with the crazy liberals right now!

That’s one reason it is critical to regain ballot access, but not the only one.

The most important reason for you to click here
https://www.personhoodusa.com/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=4 and contribute your very best gift today is the beautiful ministry and education that happens when personhood hits the ballot.

This year, and this vote, (IF we gain ballot access), will be huge for the tiny defenseless preborn persons and the adults who need to learn about the dignity of all people.

We already know what the pro-death industry will say, but their deceptions and scare tactics will not work this time!

So I write you today with utmost urgency. Can we count on you to help us with your best gift of $1,000 $300 or $50 right now?  If 100 people could give $94.25 RIGHT NOW, we would have the funds we need to put gas in our tanks, send out communications and fully mobilize thousands of volunteers.

Will you be a part of this victory today?  I pray so, would you pray and see what the Lord leads you to contribute?

God’s grace be with you,

Keith Mason

Upcoming 15 day waiting period to finish the job

We did it!

By God's grace and months of sweat put into the campaign, Personhood CO turned in 80,000 signatures to the Secretary of State! This is great news, but we can't quite celebrate yet. The Secretary of State's office is looking through each petition and throwing out any invalid signatures right now. Once they are done, our total signature count is going to be less than the required 76,000.

The bright side is that we will have a fifteen day curing period to make up for the signatures thrown out.

Co-sponsors Personhood Colorado and Colorado Right to Life see this two week curing period as an opportunity to force the continued discussion and education that comes with this kind of state-wide initiative. It will help millions of people understand that the right to life comes not from the government but from God, our Creator.

Please call Personhood Colorado right now at 303-456-2800 and request a petition for round two. Leave your name and phone number and we'll call you when the curing period starts.

Remember, don't get any signatures before you get word that the Secretary of State has given us the go ahead. Any signatures you collect before then will be invalid.

We hope to see you while we're gathering signatures at libraries, in parking lots, and the best places: the March 16 caucuses and your church!

Determined To Save The Soul Of The Nation

Determined To Save The Soul Of The Nation
Across the country, groundswells of Personhood efforts have already altered the focus of the pro-life movement, and over the President’s Day weekend, those efforts were realized.
In two key states, we gathered enough signatures to put “Personhood” on the ballot. This Personhood Movement and the initiatives it has produced have only one goal: To restore God given dignity to every human person.
I had the honor of attending victory rallies for Personhood in both Mississippi and Colorado. The fervent energy that burns in the hearts of the valiant advocates of Personhood was an encouragement that almost defies description!  Although the rallies were held over one thousand miles apart, both possessed the same purpose that can only be present when Christians band together and sacrifice their time, talent and energy for the love and protection of their neighbors.
Following the examples of heroes like Rosa Parks and William Wilberforce, Colorado volunteers collected nearly 80,000 signatures to place the “Personhood Amendment” on the ballot for a second consecutive election. And this historic achievement was the result of the sweat and labor of purely grassroots volunteers.  Just a few days later and with tears of joy, faithful volunteers delivered over 130,000 signatures to Mississippi’s Secretary of State, affirming the God-given right to life of all people.  The boxes of dog eared petitions were carried into the office of the Secretary of State by mothers, daughters, fathers and sons, and most notably Mississippi’s Lt. Governor, and front-running 2011 gubernatorial candidate Phil Bryant!
We cannot know the exact effects these amendments will bring. But it is certain here and now that we have won major victories.  Volunteers gathered over 200,000 signatures in two states. 2,500 churches opened their doors to the Personhood Movement.  We boldly proclaimed  to hundreds of thousands of people that all human life is sacred: asking and answering the provocative question:  “When should human rights begin?”. While these are all victories in their own right —and are undeniable evidence of the power of this movement — there remains a larger accomplishment that I believe will prove most indelible upon the soul of the nation.
That victory, (and I believe the most significant fruit of the Personhood Movement) is the determination now manifest in the hearts of the thousands of volunteers who are making Personhood a reality. I felt its power lift my spirit with the strength of a three-fold cord at the victory rallies. Recognizing themselves in the tiniest among us, these Christians are engaging the culture around them and selflessly giving of their time, talents and money to affirm the God-given right of Personhood for all children including the pre-born.
Undaunted by anti-personhood naysayers, these volunteers have committed their hearts, and their hands to turn back the perpetration of the most diabolical crime ever committed; a crime that includes the dehumanization and murder of an entire class of citizens. It is this determination, built upon the firm pillars of science, religion, and the common conscience of all humanity that will bring victory over the injustice of abortion. We are witnessing the emerging dominance of the most significant human rights movement of our lifetime because Christians are engaging the culture with Personhood. And the culture is responding!
I’m overwhelmed to think of the hundreds of thousands of people reached with the message of Personhood by this young and growing army of dedicated volunteers.  And with the increasing momentum of the Personhood argument comes ever more Personhood volunteers determined to communicate to millions the truth that every human is a person and should be protected by love and by law.  Such determination is the real victory. And while, like the future effects of the law establishing Personhood, its ultimate impact remains to be fully revealed, this victory has convinced me that dignity shall be restored to all humans.  Praise God!
